2nd Request for Applications: latest news and follow up

On March 16th, the 2nd Request for Application deadline of Michigan State University’s Global Centre for Food Systems Innovation (GCSFI) is expired.

Candidates could count on three grant levels: Innovation Scalability, Innovation Evaluation and Early Stage Innovation for which $500,000, $250,000 and $100,000. Staff at Wageningen University submitted or participated in six (6) applications: we wish them lots of success for achieving these grants!

A new RFA call with the same funding structure will come out most likely in September 2015 with deadline by November 2015.

The majority of application were directed to Innovation Evaluation (119) and Early Stage Innovation (108), while only 25 applications have been sent to obtain the $500,000 granted for Innovation Scalability.
The RFA had ten thematic areas concerning issues such as climate-smart agriculture, improved ability and assistance in food processing for farmers as well as gender perspective on agriculture and effective use of mobile phone-based agricultural services. By far, the most appealing thematic area chosen by applicants was “Improved ability of smallholder farmers to adapt to climate variability” which received almost one fourth of the preferences.
With 252 applications, nearly half of whom comes from Sub-Sahara Africa (104), the second round of RFA closed with a good result for African applicants. North America (61), Central Asia (39) and Southeast Asia (22) as well as Europe (18), South America (6) and East Asia (1) were the other region represented in the competition.

Important! A new RFA call with the same funding structure will come out most likely in September 2015 with deadline by November 2015. Please contact us if you are interested to apply, partner up, or just learn more about it. GCFSI is now working on framing the themes for the new call for proposals.
